Press Briefing: Update on the Thai military’s aggressive actions against Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity

4:30 PM, December 26, 2025

Intervention by H.E. Pen Bona, Royal Government Spokesperson

Samdech, Excellency, Ladies and Gentlemen! Good afternoon!

The Spokesperson for the Royal Government of Cambodia would like to re-emphasize Cambodia’s unwavering stance that Cambodia is a peace-loving country and wishes to resolve all issues through peaceful means, such as diplomatic dialogue, and in compliance with international laws. Cambodia strictly adheres to the existing agreements, including the Ceasefire Agreement dated July 28, 2025, and the KL Joint Declaration on peace dated October 26, 2025, signed by the prime ministers of both Cambodia and Thailand, which is in line with the spirit of international laws.

The Spokesperson for the Royal Government of Cambodia condemns in the strongest possible terms the brutal, malicious and inhumane acts of armed aggression by the invading Thai military on the innocent Cambodian civilians and civil infrastructures. Up to now, 30 Cambodian civilians (including 1 infant) have been killed, 90 have been injured, and displaced civilians have increased to over 640,000, while many civil infrastructures such as houses, roads, bridges, schools, hospitals, markets, private business buildings, pagodas, and even the Hindu lord Vishnu statue and the renowned ancient religious temples—the invaluable and irreplaceable cultural heritage of humanity—have been deliberately demolished every day, all due to the Thai invading military’s malicious bombardment with heavy artillery shells and fighter jets.

In this regard, Cambodia calls on the international community to put pressure on Thailand to immediately stop its aggressive actions, violations of international law and grave human rights violations, and force the country to return to a peaceful resolution, as well as hold it accountable for its actions. The Spokesperson for the Royal Government of Cambodia proudly praises the great unity of the Khmer people with the united voices of condemnation and demands from monks, government officials, civil society organizations, and Cambodian citizens, both domestic and abroad, who have been calling for peace and demanding that Thailand stop its barbaric aggression against Cambodia. Cambodia’s “gentle but resolute” approach, grounded in diplomatic dialogue and international law, is gaining greater attention from the international community than ever before.

The spokesperson for the Royal Government of Cambodia also proudly praises the profound appreciation for the heroic courage of the Cambodian Armed Forces, who have been fighting fiercely and persistently against the invading enemies. This heroism is highly respected and valued by the Royal Government and the Cambodian people. This is the strongest core force to protect the territorial integrity against the invaders.
