Fake news is a dangerous social toxin (virus) that we must all act as vaccines to detoxify.

His Excellency Pen Bona, a Minister attached to the Prime Minister and Head of the Royal Government Spokesperson’s Unit, stated that at present, extremist opposition groups and their overseas media networks have been using various forms of false news, exaggeration, and incitement as strategic weapons, serving as dangerous social poisons. However, we can act as vaccines to weaken these poisons through proactive actions by disseminating accurate news that the Royal Government is striving to pursue in the best interest of the nation and its people.

H.E. Pen Bona emphasized that the Royal Government, led by the Cambodian People’s Party, has sacrificed everything for the country and its people by investing their lives to claim the right to life for the Cambodian people. From piles of ashes, they have built the country to achieve outstanding and unprecedented milestones. Currently, the Royal Government of the 7th legislature of the National Assembly, led by Samdech Hun Manet, is working towards the vision of Cambodia 2050, aiming to become a high-income country and uphold the pride and dignity of the Cambodian people. Therefore, we will not allow anyone to distort the truth and hinder the progress of the Royal Government.

This remark was made on the occasion of His Excellency officiating and speaking at the opening ceremony of the training course on “Effectiveness of Information and Conveying Words” for information officers and spokespersons of Kandal Provincial Administration at Kandal Provincial Hall on June 20, 2024, under the presidency of H.E. Nou Sakhorn, Chief of the Provincial Council and H.E. Dim Bora, Deputy Provincial Governor, who represented H.E. Kong Sophorn, Governor of Kandal Province. The training was attended by Excellencies, Lok Chumteavs, provincial councilors, members of Provincial Board of Governors, provincial administration officers, commanders of the three types of Provincial Armed Forces, ladies and gentlemen from district, municipal and commune levels, totaling more than 450 participants.

In his welcoming speech, H.E. Dim Bora, Deputy Governor of Kandal Province, thanked H.E. Pen Bona for dedicating his valuable time to participate as a presenter in the training for information officers and spokespersons from the entire Kandal province. His Excellency Deputy Governor emphasized that this work is very crucial for the entire provincial administration.

H.E. Deputy Governor continued, “Although satisfactory achievements, development and progress have been made in all sectors that keep improving day by day in the process of managing and leading the provincial, municipal, district, commune and Sangkat administrations as well as the various provincial departments in the whole province, challenges persist and some problems often occur due to gaps in information management, including information collection, provision of information and conveying of wrong words, resulting in the lack of information or ambiguity among the general population. Our efforts to counter false information, fraudulent information and other provocative information within our organizations are still limited. Therefore, today’s orientation training will help strengthen our work of information management and conveying words of the provincial administration, departments and units, municipal, district and commune/sangkat administrations more effectively. It will also help us contribute to implementing the Pentagonal Strategy Phase 1 of the Royal Government of Cambodia successfully as planned.”

His Excellency Pen Bona, Minister attached to the Prime Minister and Head of the Royal Government Spokesperson’s Unit, commended the Governor of the Kandal Provincial Board of Governors for their collaboration with the Royal Government Spokesperson’s Unit in organizing this training. The training aims to strengthen the effectiveness of the Information and Spokesperson Working Group within the entire provincial administration.

During the training, the Royal Government’s spokesperson shared valuable knowledge and experience related to information dissemination and the roles and responsibilities of spokespersons, putting a strong emphasis on the importance of delivering accurate information to the public through various channels and being proactive in communication.
