Intervention by H.E. Pen Bona, Royal Government Spokesperson:
First and foremost, as the Spokesperson for the Royal Government of Cambodia, I’d like to address the recent actions of several Thai officials, both civilian and military, as well as certain media outlets, who have deliberately fabricated and disseminated false information with the clear intent to discredit the Royal Government and the leaders of Cambodia. These malicious actions appear to be a calculated attempt to incite public resentment toward our leaders and to undermine the strong sense of national unity that binds the Cambodian people. Another important point to note is that those who are creating fake news are now shifting the blame by accusing Cambodia of spreading disinformation, an obvious attempt to cover up their own actions.
However, I would like to reiterate that these claims are completely baseless, nothing more than blatant lies and distortions of facts that are already widely known and understood by the public. While certain segments of the Thai public may be misled by these falsehoods, the Cambodian people and the international community are not. Today, the truth is fully transparent and clearly visible to both the public and the international community.
As the Spokesperson for the Royal Government of Cambodia, I wish to emphasize to the Thai side that this is a crucial moment for both parties to demonstrate genuine commitment, sincerity, and goodwill in the effective implementation of the ceasefire agreement. Only through such efforts can we preserve peace and ensure the safety and well-being of the people in both countries.
If the Thai side has issues to address with its own citizens, it should resolve those matters internally. There is no need to shift blame onto Cambodia by spreading false information, a tactic that is no longer effective in an era where the public is well-informed and vigilant.
The Cambodian people have a clear understanding of the situation and are fully capable of discerning right from wrong. Therefore, any attempt to spread misinformation or falsely accuse the Cambodian leaders in an effort to sow division between the people and their leaders is doomed to fail. Such malicious actions will only strengthen national unity, as Cambodians remain steadfast in their commitment to safeguarding their sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the dignity of all citizens against insults and provocations.
In conclusion, the Spokesperson for the Royal Government of Cambodia firmly reaffirms the unwavering unity of the Cambodian people, who stand in steadfast support of their courageous leaders and brave soldiers in the defense of the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Baseless misinformation will have no effect whatsoever.
