Intervention by H.E. Pen Bona, Royal Government Spokesperson:
1.As of July 28, 2025, Thailand’s aggression against Cambodia’s territorial integrity has entered into its fifth day, starting on July 24, when Thai military forces first attacked Cambodia.
2.Today, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, will lead the delegations from Cambodia to a special meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The meeting is hosted by Malaysia and co-organized by the United States, with the participation of representatives from China. The meeting’s goal is to ensure an immediate ceasefire between Thai and Cambodian forces, as agreed upon by the two nations’ Prime Ministers after U.S. President Donald Trump took the initiative last Saturday night over the phone. The purpose of today’s meeting is to keep working to fulfill that commitment. The Prime Minister of Cambodia conveyed his appreciation to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for arranging this meeting.
3.I’d like to remind everyone that last Sunday night, US President Trump and Prime Minister Hun Manet spoke over the phone. During that conversation, US President Trump suggested an immediate ceasefire, to which Prime Minister Hun Manet enthusiastically agreed. Additionally, President Trump and Thailand’s acting Prime Minister spoke, and the latter agreed to the US President’s ceasefire proposal.
4.However, it is important to note that the Thai army has been attacking Cambodian forces nonstop throughout yesterday and to this day in spite of the ceasefire. Given Cambodia’s consistent support for peace and adherence to international law, the ceasefire proposal is timely and pertinent, completely fitting with Cambodia’s perspective.
5.As the Royal Government Spokesperson, I’d like to express my profound gratitude and respect to all of our military heroes who have sacrificed their lives, blood, sweat, and tears to protect our territorial integrity and fend off invaders. Every Cambodian respects, values, and admires this sacrifice. In addition, I would want to thank all citizens here and overseas, young and old, men and women, for standing together, flying the Cambodian flag, and loudly denouncing Thailand’s violation of our national sovereignty and territorial integrity. This solidarity, which demonstrates our dedication to peace, respect for international law, and resolute rejection of any aggression, is a powerful testament to the Cambodian spirit. Today, the voices of the Cambodian people are being heard around the world, drawing attention to the Thai invasion of Cambodia.
